An in-depth look
A rapidly expanding full service law firm, Veale Wasbrough Vizards (VWV) had decided to relocate its Bristol base to larger offices at the newly refurbished Narrow Quay House (NQH) in the city centre. By taking a pre-let at the waterfront building, while it was in the process of being brought up to Grade A quality, VWV would be able to create a highly bespoke workspace.
VWV asked Interaction to ensure that its new office’s fitout would communicate the firm’s commitment to service excellence, and offer staff and clients a truly inspiring place in which to do business.
NQH was refurbished to create a central, glass topped atrium with surrounding meeting suites on each floor. Open balconies allowed these meeting areas to overlook the atrium and benefit from the natural light that cascades down through the building. The concept behind the meeting suites was to create spaces where people could meet and work in an open environment, while each floor was built to function with a high degree of flexibility.
Interaction’s fitout for VWV would exploit the building’s malleability through the creation of ‘pockets’ of space to suit the varying work and social needs of VWV’s staff and clients. The ground floor, for example, was composed to accommodate a broad range of uses with formal meeting rooms and a larger hub area (with kitchen) for socialising.
Another key element of the fitout concept was to make full use of the impact offered by VWV’s dedicated entrance point to NQH. Interaction’s sleek design for the area made dramatic use of VWV’s corporate colours of crimson and white to create a lively, creative buzz in the reception area and beyond. To add a touch of humour, and reinforce the firm’s connection to Bristol, a giant Gromit figure dressed as a knight was placed in the reception area to welcome visitors.
As well as creating the overall look of the VWV’s new office, Interaction carried out all the electrical works; joinery works; installed flooring and built an external decking area to the rear office entrance for staff to enjoy outdoor space.
VWV is delighted with the completed fit-out project. Interaction has created a balance of open and private spaces for the firm’s clients and its 250 strong Bristol team. An atmosphere of openness that also accommodates professionalism and integrity fills VWV’s new Bristol home.
