A bespoke workspace that communicates Pacific West’s identity and supports collective working.
To reflect its status as a leading and innovative supplier of premium frozen seafood, Pacific West Foods decided to move to modern, open plan headquarters within its base town of Trowbridge. The company wanted its new office to promote a collaborative work ethic and look the part of a progressive, global company.
Pacific West Foods had grown rapidly since its foundation in 1995, establishing a reputation in the catering trade, including pubs, restaurants and upmarket cafes, for quality products and a good customer service. Keen to further enhance staff collaboration and the exchange of creative ideas, Pacific West wanted its workspace to shift the organisation’s work culture further towards collective working.
Interaction analysed the company’s existing work practices to create a design strategy that would facilitate a more team based approach to tasks.
Importantly, Interaction fitted out the new space to make the most of the open plan format, ensuring workers felt connected with one another whilst also enjoying a degree of privacy to aid concentrated work. To integrate visitors and clients into this area, Interaction installed a faceted wall with soft seating placed in its corners. A bespoke storage wall provided lockers to allow workers to follow a ‘tidy desk’ policy and keep the office clutter free.
Further encouragement towards collective working was provided by a breakout area where staff could meet informally and mingle. With plenty of space available for staff to interact, only two dedicated staff meeting rooms were subsequently required. A larger boardroom was also created for presentations and senior management meetings. This room used a writable feature wall to create a memorable visit for clients. A nearby kitchen area, featuring a quality range style cooker and an efficient extraction system, means employees can cook up food samples for clients to taste.
An aesthetically appealing office was important to Pacific West. Interaction carefully selected a palette of light, gentle colours, particularly blues, pinks and greys, to create a serene, light workspace.
The company’s connection with the sea was evoked through the use of a wave patterned carpet and other flowing interior features such as the manifestation, as well as through the predominance of blue – Pacific West’s key brand colour. A touch of fun and humour was added with bold feature lights and the odd splash of ‘pop art’ colour.
Interaction completed the fit out of Pacific West’s new base in just five weeks. By carefully considering the company’s needs and aspirations, Interaction created a bespoke workspace that communicates Pacific West’s identity and supports collective working.
“Interaction exceeded our expectations by supplying us with a fantastic workplace, on time and within budget. It was a real pleasure working with their team, A special thanks to Hannah, Egle, Stephen and Tony for a brilliant result.”
